News| Brazil issued a regulation draft of lead in paint
December 18, 2017-Brazil issued a draft of the maximum limit of lead content in paint and surface coating analogues, and the allowed maximum limit of lead content was set as 90 ppm.
The regulation gave the explanations of paint and surface coating analogues as follows:
i. Paint: resin, pigment, solvent and addition, including anything that its purpose are trying to endow the given surface and bottom with protecting, coloring and beautifying by using vanish and paint.
ii. Surface coating analogues: used for protection, preparation or surface treatment of the products, including the bottom treated with primer and sealant, and the product dealt with waterproof agent, etc.
For manufacturers and importers engaged in paint and surface coating materials, the regulation also clearly shows what as follows:
a) Coatings for signal and traffic safety will implement this regulation within 5 years;
b) Coatings for vehicle, plane, ship, household appliances, furniture hardware, agricultural and industrial equipment will be in 3 years;
c) Coatings and surface coating analogues for the others will be requested to meet within a year.
d) Paints and surface coating analogues produced or imported during the period specified in the terms may be sold until the end of their validity period
This Law does not apply to:
i. Cash processing inks used in Anti-theft device and certified by the Brazilian conformity assessment system (SBAC) ;
ii. Products regulated by Act No. 6360 of September 23, 1976 and its amendments by the Anvisa.
